Reassurance for 500 staff after food firm is taken over

Hundreds of staff at a Spalding food factory are being reassured about their futures after the business was acquired by a new owner.

More than 500 people work at Kerry Foods, in Fulney Lane, and which has just been taken over by Pork Farms for an undisclosed sum.

The formal merger of the companies has been given the go ahead by industry watchdog, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA)

The deal was originally announced last August but held up after it was referred to the CMA.

Now the CMA has given the merger the green light, which means the Kerry Foods site will become part of a group with sales of about 1 billion a year.
